Bathsheba Demuth

Bathsheba Demuth is a writer and environmental historian focused on the lands and seas of the Russian and North American Arctic. In addition to her prize-winning book Floating Coast: An Environmental History of the Bering Strait, she writes for a range of audiences in publications from The American Historical Review to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Granta, Emergence, and The Best American Science and Nature Writing. Demuth is the Dean’s Associate Professor of History and Environment and Society at Brown University, where she teaches courses on environmental history and creative nonfiction. Demuth is currently writing a biography of the Yukon River watershed.
